There are two different fees associated with each class: class fees and kit fees.
Class fees are the charge for taking the class and must be paid at registration time to reserve your seat in the class.
Kit fees are the cost of non-optional materials that are required in order to participate in the course; kit fees are payable directly to the instructor on class day at start of class.

Description:

This full 8-hour day will be devoted to multiple techniques of using wire in jewelry.  All 3 techniques shown in the photis above will be taught. We will make pieces incorporating beads as rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces.  Some techniques will be very new to Canada; some will be a variation of already known designs but with a twist.

NOTE: Classrooms are equipped with task lights; students should bring their own electric hairdryer, eyeglasses, magnifiers or additional task light(s) as needed.

Kit: Supply fee for the day will be $35.00 and will include use of any tools for the day needed for each portion of the class EXCEPT a hair dryer which we ask that you please bring to the class.

About the instructor:Jelcy Romberg is a professional Beading Techniques instructor based in a Dallas, Texas suburb but spends approximately 40 weekends a year traveling and teaching at bead shows, bead retreats, bead societies, stores and private groups.  She is also under contract with a cruise line to teach beading classes on various ships several times a year.  In addition to all of these activities, she also teaches a weekly Beading Techniques class on a semester basis at the Craft Guild of Dallas where she learned to bead herself after having spent years studying silversmithing, fabrication, enameling, glass fusing, glass casting, lampwork bead making, ceramics, basket weaving, marbled paper making and other creative arts.  To find out more about her, please go to www.jelcy.com.

This full day class covers different techniques in Morning and Afternoon sessions, each with different streams to accommodate different skill levels.  While beginners learn fundamental skills in creation of their projects, the intermediate / advanced beaders in the same class will be learning and applying more advanced techniques.

Morning:

Beginners - Pathways Mini-Pendant
Stitch a delightful mini-pendant (2.5"Lx1"W) while you are learning the basics of square stitch.  Then discover how to fashion a casing for your chain and add a surface embellishment layer.
Kit includes printed instructions, size 8 seed beads in 3 colours, thread and needles.

Intermediate to Advanced Beaders - Art Deco Mini-Pendant 2.75x1.5
Build a wonderful mini-pendant (2.75"Lx1.1.5"W) with four layers-and embellish it with beads, crystals, and fringe.  This mini-version uses larger beads to help you review square stitch basics and learn three different techniques for adding layers.
Kit includes printed instructions, size 8 seed beads (3 colours), size 11 seed beads, Swarovski crystals, thread, needles.

Beginners - Pathways Bracelet
This is a beautiful bracelet that reflects the Celtic design and raised embellishment techniques of the original Pathways Pendant.  Black Delica beads contrast with the silverlined mauve and green pattern. It looks stunning worn with basic black.

This class is for the beginning wire wrap student. We first begin with making a ring to get you used to how wire feels and works. From there we will wire wrap a basic cabochon. These two pieces will give you the background to create whatever wonderful styles come to your mind. Only your imagination will prevent you from advancing in this technique. Skill Level Prerequisite: none

NOTE: Students should bring their own wire cutters and round nose pliers, measuring tape, and, if available, pin vices and round nose pliers. Tools provided if you do not have them. Task light optional.

Transform a Swarovski® channel chain of side-facing crystals into a cuff with stacks of Swarovski® bicones threaded onto headpins. Finish lower cuff edge with a series of pearl/crystal dangles. Lobster clasps were designed to blend in and can be used to suspend channel chain creation into a neckpiece. TWO Techniques in ONE Class!!

Stringing Without Crimping:
This lecture-demo-hands on class will NOT include making a piece during the class. It will give the opportunity to learn an alternative means of starting and finishing a piece of jewelry without using crimps. This technique has multiple advantages to be demonstrated and practiced in the class.

Basic Pearl Knotting:
This very, very popular class has been added by popular demand. No piece will be made during the class. It will be a lecture, demo and hands on practice course with a handout for future reference.

NOTE: Classrooms are equipped with task lights; students do not need to bring tools nor materials to class but it would be useful to bring an awl or tweezers, wire cutters and scissors if student has them, and students should bring their own eyeglasses, magnifiers or additional task light(s) as needed. Ladder Bracelet and Mini Obelisk Earrings:
Transform a tich crystal combo into a splendid bracelet. Work with two sizes of crystals and beading wire using a simple ladder technique for instant gratification. taper bracelet and finish with bead tips and toggles. The earrings show a very different adaptation of this technique.

Mini R.A.W. Earrings:
These very versatile Obelisk Earrings change their mood depending on the mix of crystal types, colours, shapes and sizes. They could be done with a 2-needle Ladder or Right Angle Weave (R.A.W.). The earrings will firm up by circling all the way around inside beads.

Description:

Herringbone:
This stitch comes in many variations. This time-tested version has every bugle wrapped with a string of seeds and juxtaposed in a herringbone fashion. The first minutes are tricky, but once you get the rhythm going, the chevron pattern comes quickly. Even up the herringbone, string a crystal and add a clever ball and socket clasp to finish.

Textured Weave:
This versatile weave is learned easiest with larger-sized beads along the edge framing mid-sized beads. Better yet, the textured combos make great ready-to-wear bracelets or necklaces! Learn how to create the foundation and then repeat a 3-bead by 2-bead sequence to desired length. See the numerous uses for this technique in class.

Description:

These pieces are the most excellent intro to the world of netting.

Your choice: learn to make the stunning Cleo Egyptian wide collar (or same pattern in colors of your choice) in 3 hours, or the elegant Textured Net in 2 hours. Pieces may not be finished in class.

Egyptian Collar:
Learn the secret of making wide collars with a single needle and thread so the full netted pattern comes together quickly. Ever-changing colors of beads and various sized bugles add fascinating complexity to the collar. Check out the swag motif along the lower edge! [Consider also taking Egyptian Coil Bracelet for a wider ancient Egyptian look!] Or, if Egyptian collars are not your thing, bring your own bugles in 2 to 3 colors / sizes plus 3 colors of seed beads and buy the pattern instead of the kit. Flexible!!

Textured Net:
Three sizes of beads add texture and are an excellent tool for learning exactly where to connect the next string of beads. It goes very quickly and has incredible possibilities. You could see how adaptable it could be for an entire bridal party or perfect for casual wear. Choose your kit from an amazing array of combos.

Twig Chip Cascade Necklace AND Chicklet Bracelet:
Dive into vertical netting and coralling front and centre with this tactile necklace. String your bead combo per pattern and start forming chip-tipped twigs on your way up. Each chip comes alive with a contrasting bead tip. Further explore this technique with a matching chic bracelet sans twigs.

Chicklet Bracelet:
This chic bracelet is a great intro on its own to vertical netting. String the sequence of seeds, larger accents and glass chicklets as shown. Turn around through the accent and begin netting 3 or 5 beads at a time. Work top to bottom for full control of bracelet length. Toggle clasp finish.

Participants will learn how to make a Native American beaded Strawberry pincushion in the traditional manner using dimensional beadwork techniques.

Instructor Bio: Naomi Smith is a First Nations beadwork artisan. She is actively involved in educating others about First Nations arts from a historical and contemporary perspective. Her main passion is researching all aspects of North American Indian beadwork. Over the years Naomi catalogued, preserved and restored a wide variety of Native beadwork dating from the early 1800’s to the mid 1900’s from various First Nations Groups. She teaches Indian beading techniques at Six Nations through the Jake Thomas Learning centre, Dufferin Museum, the Bead Oasis Shows and is also available for private instruction.
